A special friend who gave me a great deal of support and thinking I would like to say thanks. Thank you I will dig out my old service records,so that i can give you more information. I am seventy one now and I sat here thinking back of all the support and education the Royal Navy gave me Thank you Michael.

Hi, My dad, JOHN (Jack) SALMON, served on HMS RODNEY in WW2. Amongst other things, my dad was a STOKER.

I am hoping some one has photos of the crew of this ship, from that time, in particular the stokers. Obviously I am hoping one contains my dad!. I know he was on her during her convoy duties of Pedestal, which I believe was in 1942, he may also have been aboard during engagement with Bismark. Any photos of ordinary seamen anything would be great.
sadly, Jack crossed the bar in Jan 2006, having spent his post war years being very proud of his connections with the Rodney. He was buried in his Rodney regalia!, blazer, badge, tie and tally., still a handsome sailor!!.

I am trying to find out more about my father,Gordon Harper, who served with Combined Ops Oct 1942- 1946.He was at HMS Quebec(various camps)25/10/42-Sept 1943. I am particularly keen to find out where he landed as a beach commando on D Day.His naval record shows him attached to FIBC but this leads me no further - can anyone assist( what was FIBC?),After being evacuated wounded from Normandy, and recouperating he was transported on HMS NESS to Singapore until early 1946 shown as attached to RTTG TOLWYN ,but again I cannot develop this - can anyone help at all? I am searching for descendents of leading Seamen J. Leadley who was the sole survivor (or 1 of 2) of HMS Bombala (Willow Branch) sunk by German submarines U153/U154 on April 25th 1918 off the coast of Senegal. My great-uncle Lieut. Commander Bernhard Anderson was reportedly picked up by one of the lifeboats but we are unable to determine whether he was in the only lifeboat that eventually made it to the coast. Did he die enroute and was he buried at sea or was he one of the men who died shortly after reaching land and if so, what happened to his body? My family are hoping that Seaman Leadley kept a recorded and detailed account of these tragic events or that his relatives can guide us in the right direction. Many Thanks MaryAnn
