20th September 2007 in Liverpool, Vic Admiral Michael Gretton launched the fund to raise 2 million to bring HMS Whimbrel back from Egypt. As a memorial to the Battle of the Atlantic. The last Black Swan Class sloop still afloat.
These group of ships sank 20 U-boats during WW11 under the command of Captain J.Walker.

I have just recently joined the Southend Branch as a associate member as I was in the Merchant Navy, but I like to think I am keeping up the tradition of my Father who served in the R.N from 1929 to 1945. After the war he became a member of the Ilford Essex branch of the association which held it meetings at the Valentine pub Gants Hill I wonder if any one remembers that branch.

I wish to sadly announce the passing away of my father Clifford John Asbury MBE, who served upon HMS Kelly during WW2 with the late great Lord Louis Mountbatten. my father was a very proud man and didn't like to talk about the friends he lost during his several sinkings in the war, he will be sorely missed.

Hello iam 13 and i was searching for Royal Navy Cap Tallies. When i came accross this website. The reason iam into the Royal Navy is because when i was alot younger my grandfather started telling me about the ships and how big they were and i didnt believe him about the size of some of them. So he booked a holiday in Brixham in Devon with some of my family and when we were down there he said iam going to take you to Devon Port Docks at Plymouth i didnt understand what Docks were so he explained what they were. When we got to plymouth we pulled up at a Royal Navy Dock Yard and my grandfather got out of the car and asked one of the guards where their was a place where i could see some of the ships. The Guard said that their was a pleausure trip somewhere so we travelled a little bit further to find the pleasure trip we eventually found it. We waited for the small pleasure boat to come shore so us and the other people could get on. The trip was exciting an enjoyable. We saw RFA Brambleleaf,HMS Vanguard,HMS Exeter and HMS Ocean. After that i believed my GrandFather about the size of some of the Ships. About 5 years after that my Grandfather said that HMS Ocean was coming to Sunderland which isnt very far away from where we live so we went and got on board HMS Ocean it was fascinating. We went on the Captains Bridge and many other fantastic things. Since then HMS Ocean has been my favourite Royal Navy Ship followed by HMS Hermes the reason i like HMS Hermes is because iam interested in the Falklands War and HMS Hermes played a big part of that and i think HMS Hermes is a very remarkable looking ship.
